Course and self evaluation

Since I was a child I noticed that learning a new language was not something difficult for me. Well, of course it was at the beginning, but after taking a few classes and giving it a little practice, it really turned out to be a piece of cake for me. Furthermore, I think some experiences helped me to get along with this language. I say this because when I was five I lived for about three months in the US, specifically in a place called Elizabeth in New Jersey. I think that interacting with native english speakers was something crucial at that age; it changed the way I perceive it as a second language. So when I was in high school I had very good grades in my english class, and that gave me enough motivation to start an english course in the Chilean British Institute of Culture. I finished school in 2013, and since then I had not taken english classes until this semester. To be honest, I missed this course; I noticed sometimes that I could not remember some words, or how speak and wri...

Changes to my study programme

Imagen
When I was in high school I wanted to study Dentistry, and actually when I was at the university in 2015 I had the chance of taking courses in the Faculty of Dentistry, but some things happened and I could not get transferred to that course program. So, eventually I started studying Architecture in this university and everything has been fine. However, I compare this faculty with the other one and there are some things that I would change if I had the chance. First, I would improve the faculty facilities; my first winter in this faculty was this year and I suffered horribly because of the cold wind that usually got into the classrooms. Because of that, I got a cold 6 times! it is awful to be working for workshop in such conditions. In addition to that, I would replace the tables for new ones because it is hard to draw, paint or write over those tables. They are quite damaged because the students are not careful enough and cut things over them without protecting their surfaces. Second...

Plans and Ideas for summer break

Imagen
Waiting for summer vacations is one of the best things at the end of the year. It is the perfect moment to dream and plan things to do or places to visit. The past few years I travelled with my family to the beach, but at a times it got boring because my parents, uncle and aunt are older and they preferred to enjoy in the house where we were staying. Going out alone in this cases is fun, but sometimes it can be boring and basically that is not a thing that I would like to experience again in the coming summer vacations. Staying in Santiago in January is fun; I usually hang out with my friends in bars and parties, I go to the movies, and also I go out by myself to visit museums and art galleries. For this summer I am planning to travel with my friends. The destination will be Machu Picchu, Perú. We already bought tickets to Arica; we wish to stay a few hours to walk around the city, and after that, we can take the bus to Cuzco. As I said before, the final destination is Machu Picchu, ...

Santiago Stories

Imagen
I have thousands of subway and bus stories, but I can not remember all the good ones at this moment. So I am going to talk about one that I experienced with my closest friends. It happened in 2015; we were in our second year at this University and we wondered how the parties were in other Universities around, so we decided to go to Universidad de Santiago (Usach), which is known for making the best parties. Despite having some troubles to get in, we had a good time. The party ended when the police arrived because everything was out control; they even used tear gas to disperse the crowd. So we ran our way out and took a bus straight to the Mc'Donalds store located in Alameda, close to FAU. We were hungry, and while we were eating we started talking about how good the party was, nobody truly wanted to go home! So one of my friends offered her house for us to keep partying at her place. We could have continued the party there, but going to her place meant taking the «mythical» 210 ...

Postgraduate Studies

Imagen
If I could do a postgraduate study, it will definitely be related to architecture, literature or film studies. If I have the opportunity I would like to take a film editing course; I have always wanted to know how to edit videos, the vocabulary they use in the film industry and that kind of stuff. If I learn how to use the specific programs, I could be able to shoot my own short film and edit it all by myself. That is one of my dreams since I was a teenager, and I honestly want to do it for personal satisfaction. I have been thinking that taking that course in Chile is a good idea. Postgraduate studies are expensive, so studying it abroad is not an option at the moment (but if I have the chance, I surely would). If I am going to study something I need to take it seriously, it is not a game for me. The best way I learn is when I am inside a classroom with a teacher and just a few students, the less the better. I think it makes it more dynamic because I can interact with other students,...

My Future Job

Imagen
I always liked to work. I got my first job when I was 15, and given the fact that I am still a student, I can only apply for jobs during summertimes. The ones I like most are office jobs; I like the idea of having a cup of coffee every morning as I organize plenty of paperwork, and if I can do that listening to music simultaneously and having lots of tiny «post it» stickers on my desk, it is even better (I love the «post it» stickers!). I honestly feel lucky to be studying Architecture because someday it could give me a good opportunity to have a decent office job. I hope a big company hire me full time once I am done with college. It can be either that, or start my own business, who knows, a degree gives you automatically plenty of possibilities. Start my own thing is something that I have been thinking a lot in the past few months; a close friend who is studying Engineering told me about starting an association once we finish our studies. I think that is a great idea, and I am su...

Stress and workshop

Imagen
Architecture is one of the most beautiful but difficult degrees at college. It teaches how to look at the world surrounding us in a different way and from another perspective. You become an architect after you have gone through many courses. However, I would say there is specifically one of them that I consider to be the most important, yet stressful, and that one is Workshop. This course demands plenty of hours a week, including weekends, and you have to deal with it throughout the degree. It is important because it teaches how to build a model, carry out a project and else. At the beginning, the tasks were simple, but that didn't mean they were necessarily easy. In fact, they were sort of difficult to me because I didn't know anything about design or spatial relations. It also requires a lot of creativity and imagination, which were difficult to me as well because I wasn't used to imagine and create things with such level of exactitude. In high school, I almost didn...
